Praised be Jesus Christ! In the Gospel Reading this weekend (Mark 1:29-39), after a full day of workwith healings, where Jesus cured many who were sick with various diseases, He rested for just a little while, and then he rose early in the morning for prayer in the country side. This week (Sunday, February 7 – Saturday, February 13), I will be away for a silent directed retreat; at Broom Tree Retreat Center in Irene, South Dakota. I will disconnect from all forms of communication (cell phone, email, text, social media, etc.), trying my level best to find strength in prayer. While prayer is and should be our daily routine, to serve God well, each one of us has to do not just any good things that others want us to do. We have to do those good things that God has called us to do. It may take prayer to figure out which good things to turn down. So please pray for me as always, but and in a special way during this time for my retreat that I may renew my fidelity to just those few good things that fulfill that particular purpose to which the Lord has called me as His priest. Secondly, WE NEED YOUR HELP! Visit steauction.com . St. Elizabeth School has been without many fundraisers in the past 9 months...fundraisers that we rely on. In order to try and make back some of the funds we normally would have, we are holding an online auction during the month of February, with a crowd-funding opportunity. That means you and your friends and family can donate online or by check to help us raise some much needed funds. Please visit steauction.com to check out some of the current items up for auction, and keep checking back throughout the month as we add more. There is an option to donate directly to raise $75,000 that will go to fund much-needed books, security, maintenance and improvements at the school. $75,000 might seem like a lot to raise in one month, but our parish is an extremely giving and caring parish AND please remember that we did not hold last year's picnic, we have missed out on nearly 45 bingos, and are not able to hold our PTO Auction this year. We need YOUR help to get us to our goal. Please prayerfully consider a donation that is a little beyond your comfort level. Since a small processing fee will come out of any online donations, if you want to make your donation go a bit further, write out a check made payable to St. Elizabeth School and drop it in the collection basket on Sunday, or drop it off at either the parish or school office during the week. We will update our progress chart on the website with your donation. Want to make a pledge and set up a payment plan? We can help with that also. Questions? Please call the school office at 618-877-3300, or a member of the Silent Auction Committee at (618) 225-9400. Thank you for making a difference by supporting Catholic education at St. Elizabeth School! Together in Christ’s Mission Fr. Alfred Tumwesigye
